Creating a Morning Routine to Change Your Lifestyle

Life isn’t always easy. Sometimes it can be overwhelming and heavy. Sometimes it can make you feel like you are standing still when all you want to do is move forward. If you’ve been there before – or maybe you are here now – the last thing to likely cross your mind is that you are in control.

You have the power to change your life – and it all starts with your morning routine. By beginning your day with small, positive changes, you may be surprised by how they have a big impact on your overall wellness.

Don’t know where to start? We’ve got a few ideas to help you create a morning routine to change your lifestyle and help you to live longer

Get Consistent, Quality Sleep

Your body needs sleep to function properly. Many self-help books and websites will advise you to get up earlier. But, let’s be real – we aren’t all morning people with the same schedules in life. Rather, focus on getting enough quality sleep each night – and be consistent about it. After all, your wake/sleep cycle needs to be regulated.

Pick a time that works for you to go to bed, as well as a time to get up. And stick to it. Keep your sleep pattern as regular as possible every single day of the week.

Avoid Electronic Devices

So much of the day is spent getting calls, texts, emails, app notifications, etc. This keeps many in a state of constantly-elevated cortisol. It raises stress levels and can cause you to feel overwhelmed before the day has even begun. There will be plenty of time for your phone later. Upon waking, leave it where it is and start your day without it.

If you need to, download an app that will keep it in timeout until you are ready for it.

Have a Moment of Silence

As you wake up, get in the habit of taking a few minutes for yourself. Use this time to sit in solitude with your thoughts. You may want to do some stretches, meditate, say a prayer, journal a few thoughts, or make a gratitude list.

Set your intention for the day so that you are not waking up, jumping out of bed, and rushing to get the day going. This peaceful approach can follow you throughout the day.

Get Your Body Moving

There is a lot to be said about morning exercise. It gets the blood flowing – and the energy pumping. It can boost your immune system, lead to an increase in productivity, and help you to feel more positive about your day. Why? Because you showed up, did the workout, and now have that bounce in your step.

Keep in mind that this doesn’t have to be an hours-long visit to the gym and you don’t have to run 10 miles in your local park. You simply need to get your body moving in whatever form that looks like for you. A brisk walk through the neighborhood, a Tai Chi or Yoga video, using the elliptical in your basement, lifting weights in your home gym, and so on. You choose something you enjoy that you will stick with. Consider switching it up throughout the week to make it more enticing!

Nourish Your Body

Finally, don’t weigh yourself down with a heavy breakfast and a pot of coffee. Instead, nourish your body with a smoothie, a warm cup of matcha, a turmeric latte, or even a mushroom elixir. Fresh berries and other fruits, oatmeal, chia pudding, and the like are also great choices.

Nourishing your body doesn’t mean solely focusing on the foods you eat. Investing in supplements that provide your body with the things that it needs is a great way to feel your very best. Things like a comprehensive multivitamin, CoQ10, Vitamin D3, and a good probiotic can all boost your health and promote longevity. Make natural herbal supplements part of your morning to kickstart your day.
